International Urla Artichoke Festival

Urla is one of Türkiye's main artichoke-growing districts. Held every year in early May, the International Urla Artichoke Festival is a weekend event celebrating this special crop with artichoke dishes, a producer market, live music and workshops.

When is the festival?

The International Urla Artichoke Festival usually runs over the first weekend of May for 3 days (Friday—Sunday). Exact dates are announced each year by Urla Municipality. Upcoming dates are also posted in the Announcements section on our home page.

What happens at the festival?

• Artichoke food stalls — wrapped artichokes, olive-oil dishes, artichoke pilaf and special recipes. • Producer market — local small producers selling artichokes, olives, cheese and homemade products. • Wineries — the wineries along the Urla wine road run special events during festival week. • Live music and artichoke workshops (kids and adults).

Lodging and transport during the festival

Hotels in Urla fill up quickly during festival week — book early. From central İzmir it's a 30-40 minute drive or use ESHOT line 984. Traffic is heavy — parking around İskele or the wine road is easier than in the centre.
